Fitting a lock to a wooden door. Drill holes on this centre line the same width as your lock fig. Select the position of the lock use the lock as a template to position the screw fixings. After this i started fitting the insulation to the door. Create a mortise and holes for your lock and door handle.

Set a marking gauge to half the thickness of the door fig. These lines mark the edges of the recess you ll need for the lock to sit flush with the door. Hold the lock up to the door and make a mark where the cylinder and fixing holes will be. Then use a drill to make the necessary holes for installation of your doorknob door handle and lock.
You will need to decide on what type of sliding bolt or barrel bolt you are going to use there are quite a few available. The mortice lock was dealt with in a similar way but i made the disk slightly thinner and recessed the lock surround below the face of the door so that the key could be turned more easily. Use a chisel to smooth the sides of the slot and clean away any excess wood so that the lock will fit easily. After you ve fitted the lock in the door you need to fit the strike plate to the door frame.
Remove the lock and carefully chisel out a recess for the faceplate to sit in. First mark out the place where the strike plate has to be fitted. Chisel away a small amount of wood at a time to open the drill holes into a clean rectangular hole to fit your lock. Different types of door bolt.
