Fitting Wall Lights With No Earth

There is a switch controlling that light alone which seems to have only live and neutral connection to it.
Fitting wall lights with no earth. Hello i hope you can help. We have just taken down a fan with a light in the centre to replace with a metal 3 spot light fitting and the cables from the ceiling have a live and neutral cable but the short piece of earth cable was screwed on to the metal plate holding the light and into the terminal on the light fitting. The new fitting is metal and obviously has an earth connection to put in an earth wire. What s the score on no earth on metallic wall lights.
Note that the earth wire is referred to in the wiring regulations bs7671 as the circuit protective conductor or cpc so any notes you see in articles etc about lighting circuits without a cpc are discussing the same topic. We have recently removed the light fittings from our lounge ceiling and wall and have noticed that we only have two wires no earth wire. Fitting a ceiling light no earth wire. All of the internal lights have had earths and this hasn t been a problem up till now.
I can t find an earth. A strip of lights over a bathroom mirror or medicine cabinet calls for a similar installation method. Looked at cables and they are 2 core flex no earth. Most sconces mount with a center stud so.
Ie enclose wires someway. Hi melanie 865 lighting circuits pre 1966 did not have earth or circuit protective conductor no metal light switches or light fittings can be fitted unless marked as class 2 which is double insulated upgrade of the wiring would be twin and earth from the consumer unit to each ceiling rose and each switch this would be like a rewire for the lighting circuits lifting floorboards and chasing down. Is there anyway i can make the wires class 2. Such wall light fixtures use low wattage bulbs to reduce glare while providing plenty of light.
Discussion in electricians talk started by katyg80 jan 6 2016. Only small space though. Many lighting circuits usually installed pre 1966 are still in use that have no earthing. To install a wall mounted light you ll use a ceiling box and wire just as you would for a ceiling light.
